Potentially uninhabitable planets
- Year 2018
Some Potentially Uninhabitable Planets (2018) series focuses on planets, which have been introduced in the media as “the new Planet Earth” due to speculative findings of water and atmosphere but does not actually have any real potential for life. The media news about these planets focused mostly on the potential outcomes of random interactions. On the other hand, the series of thirteen planets underlines the human-centric ways of thinking and evaluates scientific knowledge in terms of its relationship to humanity.
Kerem Ozan Bayraktar has chosen 13 planets from the closest Proxima Centauri B to the most distanced Kepler 452 B. In contrast to popular science magazines, which interpreted the data about the planets in a positive way, the artist declares them as uninhabitable. Bayraktar goes even one step further and creates his own visual versions of the planets according to an alternative interpretation of the NASA-Data.
